In this fascinating multi-media presentation, Sylvia Massy describes in detail the history and development of microphones starting with Alexander Graham Bell’s liquid transmitter in 1876. The microphone workshop includes a live look at many historic mics, and is the only online audio workshop where the participant can see and hear these mics in real time. The microphone presentation is approximately 45 minutes long, with a question and answer session at the end, covering approximately 90 minutes total. “The History of Microphones” presentation will surprise and entertain everyone, whether the attendee is a beginner or is a seasoned audio engineer.

Sylvia Massy shares her techniques for modern digital mixing, sharing in real-time the setup and routing of a hybrid mix in Pro Tools. Items discussed include creating headroom for projects with high track counts, using summing mixers to isolate and separate instruments in a blend. Plus methods of adding effects without devouring your DSP power, and template routing with pre-mastering on the stereo bus. Attendees with experience using Pro Tools get useful information to help streamline pro mixing techniques. For those who use other digital recording programs such as Logic and Studio One, this workshop includes tips and techniques that work across all platforms. “Modern Digital Mixing” includes a 45 minute mix demonstration using multiple cameras and screen shares, with a question and answer session at the end.
