Recording With Sylvia

Message from Scott Matz:

“We worked together on Other Eras….Such As Witchcraft by Old Hickory. I played drums and other goodies. An unconventional recording where we all brought in our toys to make a quick recording. You were so fun to work with. One day, it might have been the last day at Sound City, you asked me and Jason Coile (he was the other singer-songwriter) to take a reel of 2” tape and go to the big studio engineering room and fuck it up. We stomped on it, crinkled it, stapled it, then brought it back. It looked like a messy plate of spaghetti that dragged from the big room to your engineering room. You (maybe Billy Bowers) spooled it back up, placed it on your recorder, and we went for it (the piece ended up being called Spur Eye). So, we recorded the basic tracks at Sound City (3 days), then you transferred the tape to ADAT, then we finished with overdubs at Ocean Way using Matt Wallace’s mobile equipment (another 3 days). We dubbed at Ocean Way as Black Turtleneck for the CD credits. Mixed at Rocket Ranch in Encino. It was one of those Ocean Way sessions where Roxy and Kenny dared me to streak on Sunset. I’ve got a picture. You were all waiting for me in the entrance area to comeback in because the glass doors were locked, and a burly security guard reluctantly let me back in as you all were cracking up!  “
